Even though it’s been 34 years since The Dambuilders were first founded, their sound feels just as fresh. The NYC-based alt-rockers (who also have roots in Honolulu and Boston) reunited last year, with their melodies still just as tight and their messages being just as poignant. This year, to celebrate their reformation, The Dambuilders re-recorded their classic song “Shrine”, with bassist Dave Derby’s vocals being as crisp as they were when it was first recorded. “I Hope We’re Not Too Late”, the b-side to “Shrine 2026”, is an epic fresh start for the band, one that feels like a journey towards a dire situation of Tolkien proportions.

If this is a sign of what’s to come, then one could easily be excited for new music from The Dambuilders in the near future! But first, they’ve gotta build Shameless Tuesdays playlist before moving forward!

Here’s what Dave Derby has to say about this week’s playlist:

This is a list of bands that influenced and inspired us as The Dambuilders during the 90s. Many of them are bands that we were able to play with either locally in Boston or on tour. While some of these bands such as Mission of Burma and Gang of Four were guiding lights for our music when we were starting out, we saw a lot of the  bands on this list as our contemporaries who inspired us in one way or another.

Thank you for taking an interest in our music.

~ Dave Derby (The Dambuilders, Gramercy Arms)
