Is love finally blossoming in the pages of Tsumiki Ogami’s Not-So-Ordinary Life? While the series takes a more slice-of-life approach to its narrative, there’s always room to put a bit of romance in. The question is, who will eventually win the heart of Yutaka: our best wolf girl, Tsumiki, or is it the new character introduced in Volume Five? Considering what kind of monster she is, it might be hard to call!

The new character, Ako Yumenaka, is a succubus, arguably the best kind of monster girl. With her charms, she can make almost every man shower her with compliments. And I say “almost” because of Yutaka, who is impervious to her charms. (No, not in the same way as a certain bad rom-com was.) In fact, what attracts Yutaka to Ako isn’t her beauty or her charm; it’s her desire to help others. Of course, with her being a succubus, it makes Tsumiki warn her friend of what she’s capable of.

However, Tsumiki Ogami’s Not-So-Ordinary Life is quick to rid any suspicious feelings regarding Ako. The student council vice president truly has a good heart, as she works hard to make the school a great place for all. It’s only her desire for a nice comment or two that has her sometimes using her powers in a greedy way. But again, for some reason, it has no effect on Yutaka, who only desires to be Ako’s friend.

Thankfully, Tsumiki has the skills to teach Yutaka how to make friends, seeing as she has plenty. But the more she trains him, the more something starts to awaken inside of her. It’s subtle at first, with her desire to have her ears rubbed by Yutaka being a tiny sign of wanting his attention. But it’s when they go on a school trip when Tsumiki’s heart gets struck by Cupid’s arrow!

It’s a moment that shows growth in Yutaka’s progress in being a good friend. When he and Tsumiki find themselves in a troubling situation during a rainstorm, the boy gets the chance to act like the hero for once. This gesture not only opens Tsumiki to a new side of Yutaka, but merely thinking back to the moment afterwards fills her with giddiness. And when she’s giddy, Tsumiki is showcased at her cutest!

There’s a good chance that hearts are beginning to flutter in Tsumiki Ogami’s Not-So-Ordinary Life. Volume Five sets the stage for love to blossom, be it from the cutest wolf girl around or a succubus who aims to help anyone who needs it. But will Yutaka reciprocate those feelings when the time comes? If he’s a smart man, he’d better!
