After dealing with so much weird stuff in her life, Noren is finally realizing that her dad’s company may not be an ethically good one. From all the weirdos asking for her hand in marriage to the recent shenanigans at the mansion, Noren is piecing together that her whole life has been built by a questionable organization. However, Noren has no time at all to continue researching her dad’s line of work. Not only are there too many men asking for her hand in marriage, but Juzo hasn’t been showing off his boyfriend skills enough to push them away.

That’s when the eighth volume of Kill Blue delivers what may be its funniest chapter yet! The Home Ec club comes up with a plan to make a lovey-dovey photo album of Noren and Juzo. Ugly matching sweaters, a romantic sharing of a café staple, and even a close-up pic during a sunset where the two “lovebirds” push their cheeks together. All of it is delightfully stupid, and the look in both the characters’ eyes is one that I truly hope to see when this certain chapter gets animated someday.

Juzo’s got other things to worry about as well. For starters, summer is still going on, and with his homework all done, the middle-aged assassin trapped in a middle schooler’s body is dying of boredom. No one’s around to hang, and even the thought of playing Russian Roulette solo (would that be Russian Solitaire?) doesn’t even excite him! Thankfully, a last-minute camping trip takes Juzo out of his funk, and even gives Noren a chance to show how grateful she is to actually have friends to enjoy what life has to offer.

But when the second semester starts, Kill Blue switches gears. The school gets a new principal and new staff members, all of whom have a score to settle with Juzo. When the new principal, Yoichiro Oka, calls Juzo in for a meeting, he reveals why he wants to bring Noren into his world, and what he wants to transform a country like Japan into. And boy, it’s very easy to hate a guy who thinks that Japan’s problems could be solved by legalizing guns! (Seriously, fuck that guy!)

And then, two more unicorns appear to ask for Noren’s hand in marriage. As usual, neither of them has the slightest idea of what Noren wants in her life; she’s just some prized pig to them. A new two-on-two challenge is laid out, this time with horse-styled cavalry being the game to play. Juzo accepts, with Shin tagging himself in as a partner.

Surprisingly, this is where Kill Blue allows Shin to shine. What starts off as an equestrian match turns into a karate battle, with Shin going up against the hot-headed Jinta. For once, the boy with the pacifier looks like a real man when fighting Jinta, as he shows off some killer moves and a level of strength that can only be described as “terrifying”. Hell, even the students watching it are wowed by it!

As for Juzo, we’ll have to see how he fares against the spectacled Hijiri in the next volume. Thankfully, Kill Blue gave him enough moments to shine in Volume Eight, especially alongside Noren. But from here on out, it looks like their lives will be set to extra hard mode, with big foes now overtaking the school and more unicorns coming out of the woodwork. Thankfully, Juzo and Noren have a whole Home Ec club filled with friends, allies, and weirdos that will surely aid them when times get tough!
