When it’s allowed to go all in on the humor, Mission: Yozakura Family becomes a damn good time! With the addition of children Alpha and Hifumi to the mix, the series has had a good amount of time to showcase the cuteness of Mutsumi and Taiyo’s kids. Now on a quest to get permission to join the family’s main mission, the twins showcase exactly why they’re already a formidable duo. And it starts in Volume Twenty-Two, as the siblings and Uncle Stinky Kyoichiro set off to find little bro Nanao.

Knowing Kyoichiro, the weirdest of the Yozakuras will do anything to win some sort of affection from the young twins. However, the closer he tries to get, the more rough Hifumi and Alpha get with their words. But as time goes on, and the quest for Nanao’s location continues, a moment arrives to give Kyoichiro even a sliver of family love. And when he does get it, it results in a sweet moment. (There’s also a badass part too, but I’ll let you experience that yourselves!)

The search for Nanao brings the family to the Arctic, as his body has taken over the entire lab he resides in. It results in a fun RPG-styled mission to rescue Nanao, with slime monsters, dragons, and some cool new attacks. But in-between the epic battles, the twins bicker over what to name their special attack. Kyoichiro’s decision to not help them choose a name backfires spectacularly, but it’s Nanao’s decision to laugh at both names that results in a fit of hilarious rage from the siblings!

It then leads to a very funny aftermath, with just about the entire family now reunited. For some reason, Alpha and Hifumi drank some growth potion, resulting in them becoming teenagers for a day. Needless to say, nobody in the family is ready to see them already grown up. Taiyo and Mutsumi melt into puddles of joy, Futaba becomes self-conscious about her height, and both Kengo and Shion are schooled on wearing clothes that are appropriate for their age. And don’t even dare ask what goes through Kyoichiro’s head.

But there’s one person still missing from Mission: Yozakura Family: Shinzo. And boy, does the family receive some wild news! So wild, in fact, that the family breaks into rescue mode immediately. However, it won’t be easy to save Shinzo, as a certain “Spy Day” head has a lot of dirt on the family. Just how bad is it? Let me put it to you this way: the eldest son and the youngest daughter have way, way more in common than you could ever imagine!

Volume Twenty-Two of Mission: Yozakura Family is a whole lot of fun! It’s super funny, action-packed, and sweet in all of the right places. On top of that, it goes to great lengths to show why the Yozakuras are the strongest and most tightly-knit family in modern-day Shonen Jump. Yes, even Uncle Stinky Kyoichiro somehow will win readers over…before losing them again, naturally.
