Even vampires have conflicted feelings when it comes to love. It’s the part of them that makes them still human. Yes, some vampires may use that to do nefarious things. However, Hina in Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite isn’t your average bloodsucker. In fact, she never once had the urge to sink her fangs into another human…until now, that is!

Volume Seven of Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite has a lot of luggage to deal with. First off, Hina blurted out that she likes Amanatsu, and is trying to figure out how he feels about that. At first, he doesn’t feel bothered by it, as he acts like his normal chummy self. However, when Hina invites a couple of Vampire Cross-loving humans to her apartment, he (and Viktor) go into protection mode when one of the friends turns out to be a guy.

At first, the guy seems pretty normal, despite having a username and icon that look girly. However, the more he’s grilled by Viktor and Amanatsu, the more his true self starts to surface. And while he never really seems to be the type who is doing meetups just to pick up girls, a shocking fact about him reveals that this could be the case. When Hina finds out the truth about him, it makes her realize that Amanatsu was right to act so protective.

Which leads to a big moment in Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite: a Christmas date! The two spend the evening walking around looking at the holiday lights, with the vibe feeling somewhat romantic (poop stain withstanding). But when Amanatsu’s ghost hunter pals appear, the date turns into a spooky evening looking for specters, something that Hina’s man isn’t the biggest fan of. That being the case, Amanatsu winds up putting on a brave face, as he doesn’t want Hina to think that he’s a coward or something.

It’s at this point when we really see how much Hina and Amanatsu like each other, and not in a “just friends” way. Although there have been hints of affection throughout this manga, we finally see their neighbors put two and two together and figure things out. Alas, with this being a tale of vampires, this situation has to be a lot more complicated. You see, now that Hina’s got feelings for Amanatsu, that means that she’s starting to hunger for something.

From here, the seventh volume focuses on the complicated emotions Hina is now feeling. Never once did she ever want to bite a human, especially Amanatsu. But now, her love for him is now stirring up a desire that she doesn’t want. After all, with Amanatsu’s past experiences, the last thing Hina would ever do is feed off of him. So what’s a vampire girl to do?!

By the volume’s end, Hina finds herself in a familiar hangout spot, chatting with a vampire who doesn’t have the best intentions in mind. Ergo, trouble will certainly come knocking on the door of Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite. Volume Seven does a very good job ironing out the feelings of both of the manga’s leads. The question now is, will the path of true love be smoothed out for Amanatsu’s sake, or will Hina be dealing with a plethora of speed bumps from here on out?
