On their fifth album Sand, Soft Science pulls their listeners into a world of beautiful textures. Although themes of fragility and cynical love play strongly throughout the ten tracks, there’s a beacon of hope that can be found via the power of vocalist Katie Haley. Matt & Ross Levine have the power to strike chords that sound like a thousand guitars in unison, whilst drummer Tony Cale and his bassist wife Becky deliver a heartbeat of positivity into every beat and groove they bring to the table. This combination helps make Sand one of this year’s must-listen dreampop album of the year, and why any release from Soft Science should be met with excitement.

With Autumn now just getting started, Soft Science has appropriately put together a Shameless Tuesdays playlist that’s perfect for the season of colorful leaves and hot apple cider.

Here’s what Soft Science has to say about this week’s playlist:

I love making playlists that capture a moment—a long drive, a special day, a certain mood, or the turning of a season. “Fall Into Fall” was inspired by that first unmistakable hint of autumn: leaves beginning to blaze red, orange, and gold; a new crispness in the air; and the welcome return of sweater weather. It is my favorite time of year, and these songs evoke the colors, textures, and atmosphere of fall for me. Along the way, I’ve woven in fantastic tracks by friends, including several fellow Shelflife/Spinout Nuggets artists, alongside bands that have inspired both our new album, “Sand”, and Soft Science throughout the years. These are songs I return to again and again—music with warmth, depth, and heart.
